This is me as Toph Bei Fong standing alone outside my house in Brooklyn in a typical Toph pose. With the exception of my karate belt, which I'm wearing because I simply ran out of time to make the belt, everything you see here is home made. I procured the raw materials: green cloth, yellow cloth, grey vinyl, wig, and white pom poms.
The green jumpsuit is a one-piece article that I sewed together from nine separate pieces of material. I made my own pattern based on my own measurements and sheer mathematics. Three safety pins hold the front flap closed.
The yellow tunic with mandarin collar was sewn together out of four separate pieces. Again, I coupled observation with math and measurements to create the piece and it is secured by two safety pins and the brown karate belt.
For the wristlets and anklets, I started off with strips of green material hot glued in place (to itself; hot gluing it to my bare skin would have hurt like hell). Strips of yellow material were hot glued to the back of the vinyl which was hot glued, then later safety pinned, around my wrists/ankles.
I took a long black wig with bangs and put up all that hair in a ponytail that begins right where the bangs begin. I tied a strip of leftover green material around my head, and, with Ron's help, hot glued the yellow scraps and white pom poms on while wearing it.
